Jamón & Co. in Greece
If you decide to live abroad some things you enjoy in your home country won’t be available. You change a bit your clothes, the food you buy and prepare and even the coffee and tea you drink. But even if you do change you still miss some things.
Sascha likes to buy Swiss cheese and prepare delicious pasta. Me, being from Spain, there is something that I miss a lot: Jamón. I also miss Spanish cheese and other “embutidos” (sorry, I can’t find a translation for it). So here is the question: What can you find in Greece?
Chorizo: you can find chorizo in Carrefour supermarkets as Τσοριθο. The quality is not very good but is edible.
Embutido: In AB supermarkets and form a Spanish company (Iglesias) you can find a tray with salchichón, lomo, chorizo and jamón. Good quality and around 6.5 euros per tray (250 grams).
Jamón: Also in AB supermarkets you can find a tray with jamón in slices from the same spanish brand. You can also buy a clean leg without bones and fat. The price in this case goes from 25 euro/kilo for jamón serrano to 58 euro/kilo for jamón ibérico.
I believe this is only a small part of all things you can find. If you, reader, know where to get any other typical Spanish products (wine, cheese, restaurants) feel free to comment
“Que aproveche”

Nice post! At least you’re lucky you live in a mediterranean country. Most of the food in Denmark is meat with potatoes. Or even worse: potatoes with meat.
Good luck with your research about the supermarkets!
I have the same problems here… I cannot find good jamón anywhere! There is some but not very good quality. And what about squibs “in their own ink”? That’s impossible to find here and I love them. Oh, the other day I could find a supermarket with manchego cheese, quite expensive, and not sure about the quality…
I usually bring those things from Spain whenever I can, together with Cola Cao, and I think I will start bringing “tomate frito” hehe. And “Chiquilín” biscuits. They do not have breakfast biscuits here -_-!
That’s the sad part of being abroad
Greetings from Aalborg.

I believe the word you are searching “Embutidos” in greek is “αλαντικά” (alantika) :p I love 2 spanish products : Semicurado (is the OMG cheese for me!) and Jamon but only if its from a block.I do not like the jamon that is already cut in slices which are seperated by plastic film.It feels like the jamon loses its own taste and has a plastic flavor.I had a friend that was a truck driver that went to Spain and i told him to bring us some Semicurado and a small Block of Jamon.Well…. we ended up with not a small block of 500grams but Half Leg of 2.100kilograms and with a big smile on my face!
